Analysis

This clip is a window into Manni and Lola's relationship, amidst the fast tempo and tense circumstances of the rest of the film.
The mise-en-scene is a high angle close up shot.  It shows very little background and concentrates on every specific, subtle detail of facial expression.  By magnifying Manni and Lola, this shot shows the importance of their intimate conversation and pans from each of their faces, letting the audience read into them more than the other action packed sequences.  Furthermore, we as humans only let those we love and trust most get close to our faces - this shot accentuates the vulnerability of Lola and her need for reassurances from the unwilling and nonchalant Manni.  As the viewer, we are made to feel both uncomfortable and curious.  We feel as if we are prying into their intimate conversation but it provides a valuable insight into their relationship.
This clip provides deep characterization for both Manni and Lola.  During the rest of the film, Lola is seen breathlessly running through the city, desperately trying to save Manni.  Yet in this clip, Manni is shown as the supposed provider and source of comfort for the unsure Lola.  Ironically, he does not live up to her expectations of a man in true love whereas Lola will eventually live up to his, with desperate attempts to fulfill his needs.  While Lola can be characterized as a young girl seeking a safe origin of love, Manni is ambiguous, neither commiting nor escaping from his relational duties.
The color of this shot is red, symbolizing both the blood Lola spills after she is shot and the passion portrayed when Manni and Lola are in bed together.  This shot is right after the first twenty minutes and can be portrayed as either a dream or flashback through Lola's eyes, while she is laying the road.  It is pivotal in that this is the shot Lola thinks about as she is about to die.
One of the central themes of the movie is "what if...?"  Lola tries to obtain the money three different ways, through three radically different means.  In this shot, Lola mirrors this theme by questioning what if Manni was with a different girl and what if he felt the same way he did with her.  Prodding and seeking for answers she cannot grasp, Lola is within the theme of uncertainty, of both her relationship with Manni and her task at hand.
I picked this clip because I feel it gives the most depth to the film and its characters.  Lola and Manni are complex people, their feelings swept to the side by a potentially life threatening situation.  But within their relationship, there is vulnerability and the prospect of the unknown future, parallel with Lola running to meet a deadline of unresolved outcomes.
